Pardon the Robert Crumb-esque title. I read it 5 decades ago and I still don't know what he meant. There're only so many clever hockey headlines you can think up that involve ducks.
The Ducks came out flying and ran up a 14-2 shot ad in the 1st stanza but left the ice with just a 1-0 lead. Nashville stormed back in the first half of the 2nd but didn't score and Anaheim recovered to nearly make it 3-0. Getzlaf, who never seems to do anything wrong, clanged the lef...Read Full Post »

How things dooo change. Well, sort of. Nobody saw this coming, I'll go out on a nice thick limb and say. In a basically even game shot-wise, Pittsburgh seemed to be more aggressive in the balance but Anderson stopped most of what they had to offer while Fleury let in 4 on the first 9 shots. It wasn't all his fault; most of those goals were either of the way-too-close variety or just good shots. But you can't fire the defense so in came Murray. Flurrymurry. Sorta got a ring to it. Murray was m...Read Full Post »

"Preds rally" say the headlines, but they didn't really. They outshot Anaheim in each period, finishing with a moderately(?) convincing 40-20 shot discrepancy. The Ducks' problem was that once Nashville did score and tie the game early in the 3rd they still didn't exactly pepper the net. Any thought of the Roadducks sustaining momentum of their 5-1 finish two nights ago evaporated. Nothing said it better than Wagner's dumb penalty with under 4 minutes to go. It was followed almost at once by ...Read Full Post »

For 2 1/2 periods Ottawa held Pittsburgh scoreless, but they botched their own few good chances. The best was MacArthur stealing the puck, swinging past the net and then, with Fleury looking beaten, bafflingly executing what looked like a blind drop pass through his legs (to Pittsburgh) instead of shooting at a net 5' away. Analysts had no answer, only guesses. They weren't very good, and it wasn't the only case of the Senators getting to the net and deciding not to shoot, opting ...Read Full Post »

it was a game the ducks simply had to win, and they did. barely. they rose to the occasion, overcame an early 2-0 lead and scratched out a victory. to me it felt like the ducks gave it all they had and it really wasnt quite enough, they should have lost this game too. they got lucky, but they kinda made their own luck too.
renne gave up a soft one which doesnt happen, and the preds lived up to their name by pouncing on opportunities that the ducks gave them.
it was ano...Read Full Post »

quite a sight to see kessel impersonating peyton manning on the bench! lol. if malkin doesnt start making phil look good, these guys r in trouble. wait, they r in trouble. it was just exactly the game ottawa wanted to play, and thats what they do best. anderson is rock solid, karlson is dominating, and bobby ryan is on a mission.
ottawa is 6-1 in ot these playoffs. they dictate the style and pace of the game every nite. in other words, u knew pittsburgh was going to tie it and it ...Read Full Post »

Bet you thought Washington would win after the last game. Nope. Bet you thought the Oilers would win after the last game. Nope. One notorious streak of futility continues. One ends. For now.
Off their strong performance in coming back to force game 7, you'd have thought the Caps had cured their playoffitis. For a good part of the game they seemed to have. But as usual, even when dominating zone time and the hitting game, they lost pucks on the dribble, air mailed easy passes...Read Full Post »
