FJ, galf , and I were joking about avatars on JD's WOW blog so I pondered and received an emotional jolt when the two-face character from one of many Batman re-incarnations entered my brain.
I was still a hard core partier in 1989 when my best friend and his wife asked me to be the godfather to their first child, a son. I was raised in a serious catholic family but moved quickly past lapsed Catholic to Deism when I was teen. Anyway, I still viewed it as a great honor and became very involved in the boy's life.
He and his younger sister requested that all the inlaws dress up as Batman characters one family halloween party in the late 1990's. The kids supervised their aunt as she painted half my face (photos are somewhere at the bottom of a box) . Now some may wonder why Two-face, but I was glad to a part of these kids' world.
During a lacrosse game in 2002, he stopped running and fell flat on this back. He was diagnosed with Leukemia and fought the good fight , including a painful bone -marrow transplant from his brave sister. It nearly worked but the disease survived in one cell and soon took over . He died in 2004. I'm still close with the family.
BTW, my godson was Devils fan and a Dale Earnhart Sr supporter. Plenty of Wings/Devils trash talk. We also went to a Nascar race together @Dover in 1999 and had our Dale trash talks since I was big Dale Jarrett fan.
