-----------------------------

Week that was in sports: the NFL lost leverage in their lockout with the officials union based on last nights game. The NHL let it be known they will lockout the players. Texas has cut off ties with Josh Hamilton on a contract extension until after the season -- both sides are far, far apart. Miami isn't just full of athletic scandals and FSU hasn't had a 1,000 yard receiver or rusher in a long time. Penn State continues to lose players while the BOT meet Sunday. Bobby Petrino made his first public statement and LSU kicked the Honey Badger off the football team. New odds for the BCS winner while Alabama may find itself in hot water over a recruit.

We join Jonnie where we discuss the Olympics and all of the controversies and highlights. As well disecting the Coaches Poll.

A funny picture of Michael Phelps.

Watch out Austin, this is SEC Country now.

Some fun at Vanderbilt while also showing a good moment in a players career.

I don't really have a rock solid position on the NHL thing. The owners proved to be idiots with this summers FA contracts. Something needs to be done to protect them from themselves. As for the players, I just wish that Fehr was not their representative. That spells doom. I want my hockey fix. Please don't take it away.

Texas is playing hardball. Express has come out and criticized Ham for weak at bats, now this. Curious to see how it plays out.

Badger is a MORON. He may have talent but he'd probably score a wunderlic of 1. What a buffoon.

FSU should be in the conversation this year. Talent is there. Time to put up or.....

Why would I not mind seeing Bama slapped with a recruiting violation? Probably 2 parts, both envy (their success and the SECs success) and no real good reasons. It can happen to anyone at anytime these days and more get away with it than are caught and penalized (my guess). On the other hand, if it some small BS violation, I'd rather see the big offenders brought down. Go hunt big game.

I used to swim like Phelps.....then again, we all did.

the nhl should look at locking out the owners perhaps. hard to believe they are at this same old impasse again. its quite the microcosm of the current state of things economically tho. unionized labor apparently overpaid and driving seemingly very willing owners into bankruptcy while failing teams are artificially propped up by the governing body for confounding alterior motives. like galf, i just need some hockey to get me thru the winter.
that is a great cartoon of phelps! and nfl officiating is legendary.

Great moment for the V player indeed. Vandy has it right on a lot of fronts.

TAMU's SEC campaign is a joke. I've seen other signs like this when I go to the Lone Star State. The old alum are still ticked off, but the younger alums don't care. The card that the other schools can play with TX HS recruits is that A&M turned their backs on the state of TX. That will play in a lot of households.

What people don't realize is that OU will be the biggest beneficiary of this all. Probably 1/2 the players that go to OU or TAMU from TX go there just so they can BEAT UT. Not anymore at TAMU.

NHL: Take the time people need to do a deal. The thing that bothers me is that the owners want to foist their revenue sharing problems on the backs of players. I don't have much sympathy for either side simply b/c the idea of a union for people where the average pay 20-25X the median American family is a total joke.

Always glad 2 C the dog back in the pic, scurds.

Best quote for me today re. the NHL lockout talk was from Lundqvist: "The NHL says they won't play past Sept 15th under current deal. Apparently they don't like the deal they designed."

Owners won't admit to that but Lunk is totally correct.

Here is a good Bettman quote from 2004 I forgot about re. salary cap: "More than a majority of our teams would use the opportunity of economic stability to lower their ticket prices."

The average NHL ticket price has increased 39% since 2004 when Bettman promised fans a salary cap would lower ticket prices. Wishful thinking and I never thought that would happen. More fuel for the players to use.
