Wings not Cactus

Posted by vapor5 on July 11, 2014 at 11:30 AM

Granted, Bowl names tend to have too many hyphens, and it would be nice to stick with original bowl names, but the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl (started as the Copper Bowl in Arizona) was a decent name for a bowl game. Aren't buffalo wings a staple of most USA football gatherings?. Anyway the bowl game will now be The Cactus Bowl

If Lebron leave the Heat, can we call the team the Defeat.

Heatley is a Duck- price is right 1 year 1M

Schneider is a Devil, not sure if they should revel.

Done with wings but I don't toss them forward like they used to at  southern Nascar tracks. They had to put up fences to protect  the front row fans from tiny fowl bones.

I swear there was a period (my entire childhood through young adult) when the bowl games all had the same name year-in and year-out. And then the corporate world got involved. Anyone ever notice how once the corporate world gets involved things just kinda go downhill?

Heatley? Danny Heatley? Is he still around? Everyone needs a swan song and $1 mil seems to be the price for a swan song.

Might be the other way around, Galf. I remember the Rose, Orange, Sugar, Bluebonnet... except for Rose (maybe?) all were commercially named and, I believe, sponsored. Well, I'm sure even the Rose bowl was commercially sponsored.

The name flips are annoying, but did you ever see the wall at Fenway Park back in the 30s or 40s, or look at a NASCAR or NHRA race car? Give 'em the money, why not get something for it? Besides, if it weren't for the corporations we wouldn't have any bowls, or hardly any. Unless Obama printed more money to sponsor them with our savings.

rad- Yes, they need corporate dollars but maybe a more subtle approach .

Cotton Bowl sponsored by Spin Cycle

Wasn't the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl one of the first pre New Years Day games?
