For 2 1/2 periods Ottawa held Pittsburgh scoreless, but they botched their own few good chances. The best was MacArthur stealing the puck, swinging past the net and then, with Fleury looking beaten, bafflingly executing what looked like a blind drop pass through his legs (to Pittsburgh) instead of shooting at a net 5' away. Analysts had no answer, only guesses. They weren't very good, and it wasn't the only case of the Senators getting to the net and deciding not to shoot, opting instead to pass once too often or circle the net. It would bite them. By the 3rd period they seemed to have joined the crowd watching Pittsburgh run a permanent power play. It's amazing they only scored once. In the last minute Ottawa figured out it was a good idea to shoot the puck and nearly tied it, but it would have been 'opportunistic' at best if they had. And now we have two underdogs leaving for home having stolen home ice, but with their formidable foes looking like they're awake. Rising tide or just desperation? We're going to find out.
