Vegas did actually what they should do. Fleece people for future picks first and then worry about your on-ice product second.they will have a decent defense with emelin and other guys with lots of games. they will be stockpiling draft picks for all they are worth from here on about 3 yrs.

To me, VGK had a mixed strategy. Schizoid. They didn't really know what they wanted to do. On one hand, they choose vets. On the other hand, they choose nothing. They gave away the store way too cheap regarding ANA and NYI in particular.

Also, I would rather have the picks in 2018 instead of 2017. They didn't spread them out.

The great news for me is that they picked McNabb instead of Lewis or Dowd.

Got Miller right. The NHL seems to get expansion drafts right, hard for me to say since I think the last thing the league needs is expansion. But the list is full of expansion teams turning into powerhouses within a decade or so. Flyers, Islanders, Flames, Ducks, Sharks, Blue Jackets etc. Can't say Oilers I guess, WHA. But a lot of O6 and O12 franchises have had way longer dry spells.

the clean slate is a big advantage, especially cap wise. they start fresh with no bad moves in the past hampering their abilities, and they get to pick guys with a fair amount of nhl game film to evaluate and at least broken in to the nhl level. other teams have busts and bad contracts dragging them down. no pressure to win now, only forward looking planning. its big.
