DUCHENE TRADED TO OTTAWA:
Turris already signed to a 6 x 6.0 extension with the Preds.
OK. Let's look at these pieces.
AVS Give up: Duchene. 2 x 6.0 remaining, 26yo
AVS Get: 1RDP fm OTT, 2RDP fm NAS, 3RDP fm OTT (2019 draft), Samuel Gerard (47th overall pick 2016), Vladislav Kamenev (42nd overall pick 2014), Shane Bowers (28th overall pick 2017, unsigned), Hamburgler (buried 1 x 1.35)
OTT Give up: Turris, 1 x 3.75 remaining, 28yo, Hamburgler, 1RDP, 3RDP, Bowers
OTT Get: Duchene
NAS Give up: Kamenev, Gerard, 2RDP
NAS Get: Turris
Big win for NAS in the near term, possibly the LT. They get a 2C w/o having to give up any core pieces. Ekholm was being discussed. Huge bullet dodged there.
OTT: Is an extra year of contract and 2 yrs in age worth a 1st and a 3rd? Turris had better #'s. Duchene is UFA in 2 yrs (and only 15 mos younger), so they only get an extra year there. How much of Turris' #'s are due to the club v Duchene? They are taking the biggest risk IMHO. This club was within an OT of the Finals last year. Will this push them farther?
AVS: At least Bowers is under their control for another 3 yrs. Got to be a disappointment to not really get a roster ready player for Duchene, but in effect multiple (4) high draft picks who might or might not pan out. Sakic knew he had to do something though. I'm not going to call this a loss, except for the feeling that he probably turned down a better package at the deadline last year.
