Rams Sputter

ATL 26 LAR 13:

The Rams got off to a fatally slow 13-0 start and couldn't manage more than a tie the rest of the way despite what seemed to be better opportunities than the Falcons got.

Gurley ran for 101 but was largely ineffective, most of his output coming on a couple of big runs. Watkins was useless. Woods was magnificent until the end when he wasn't. Goff looked like a kid with potential but was ineffective at the end, his receivers partia...

Say It Ain't So, Andy

TEN 22 KC 21:

It probably shouldn't have happened, but it did. The team most thought the biggest threat to NE or Pitt is gone. Of course, it took an early whistle on a Mariota fumble-six (forward progress???), a non-fumble-six and a non-fumble-two (maybe good calls ) and Mariota catching his own batted-down pass and running it in on a play that sure looked like he was past the line of scrimmage when he threw. Plus a concussion to Kelce late in the 1st half.

Something Fishy as Usual

Just a fast junk blog here before a thought gets snowed under.

Remember a few years back when teams were losing guys because of a 'torn bicep'? Well, this year's injury-du-jour seems to be either "Achilles" or "calf". What's up? An Achilles rupture used to be the dreaded injury that happened to some pro athlete (or somebody you know) about once every decade. Now we see guys go down almost every week with that or a lesser variation. And "calf"? Patriots have had V...

Did Baker Mayfield Cry?  Did he just get a krap load of karma shoved up his arrogant arse?  Did a Georgia player yell at him "Humble Yourself" several times?

Coaching Fun

Posted by Radatz on January 2, 2018 at 2:45 AM Comments comments (9)

Coaching and other staff news will be a whirlpool for a while yet, but here are the early birds.

CIN: As predicted here, Marvin Lewis is proving as hard to hold to a retirement statement as Al Franken. He seems to be milking the victories over the Ravens and Lions to play the coy diva. These may be the costliest victories in Bengals history.

CLE: You just knew when Kizer somehow managed to throw for 300+ vs. Pittsburgh in a losing effort to Land...

Week 17. The Grand Finale

Posted by Radatz on December 29, 2017 at 12:45 AM Comments comments (4)

And it all comes down to this. Where will I get my faux racial moralizing now? Games are divided into 3 categories depending on level of significance (or one model of it).

Means Something to Both Teams

CAR@ATL: The Panthers are playing for a shot at the division. The Falcons are playing for their butts. Carolina continues to luck out wins while whiffing on style points. Atlanta gets highlights as usual and loses. The law of av...

The Dross

Where else do you get incisive analysis about what really matters? You know, the stuff nobody else is even thinking about. We're inundated with news about January. What about the guys whose tickets to Acapulco are punched?

We know 12 teams will get to the postseason. We don't know exactly whom yet. With one week to go we have as good an opportunity as ever to analyze the refuse, knowing all the while a few entries will make the playoffs. But if you're in a dogfig...

Merry Christmas Eve! And Week 16 Near-Wrap

Posted by Radatz on December 24, 2017 at 9:15 PM Comments comments (9)

On this wintery Christmas Eve a lot of whitewashes turned out as anything but, big underdogs putting up real battles. The playoff picture solidified but at least the final week won't be meaningless. The expression "line of gain" was heard again. I never ever heard that before this season. NFL Newspeak?

NE 37 BUF 16: But for an overturned TD that's been drawing faux angst just before the half, Buffalo might have had a 17-13 lead. As it happened the 4 p...

Christmas is Coming. Who's Going?

Posted by Radatz on December 19, 2017 at 10:35 PM Comments comments (6)

We've reached the point of no more TNF classiques. Now we have Saturday doubleheaders, no SNF and a DH on Monday, the format perhaps influenced by the arrival of Christmas. Most of the games have some meaning, likely transient in many cases. Several teams could get a lump of coal. Let's see.

IND@BAL: The Colts have sooo packed it in that it's hard to see them putting up much of a showing in their old city. If the Ravens are at all real they'll win thi...
